2012, March: Otto is slowly conquering a new continent: The mexican airline Impresiones Aéreas prints the strip in their magazine. In addition to that Otto is featured five days a week in the news paper Diario El Expreso in Ecuador.
2012, February: I just got hold of the book "Billedfortællinger" ("Picture stories") from the publisher Gyldendal. It is a danish text book for oldest classes in grade school about comics. "Otto Obscura" is picked in an example of how to find the "epic core" of a story. Well, good luck!
2011, November: I introduce the site
mycomics.dk from where you can order a subscription for a daily online Otto strip. You can also read some of my other comic strips (for the moment only in danish), for a small fee that is. This also means the end of the weekly Otto strip and gallery on this page.
2011, October: I was in Malmö for their Comics Festival, which is very small and very nice. Met artist
Sarah Kläpp who had a exhibition of the originals to her forthcoming and promising book "Ichabod Kvick och järnbläckfisken" which is released next year. Allan Haverholm and C'est Bon Culture had arrangered and contributed to the great exhibition "Astoria" of comics inspirered by music. And of course I went home with a stack of great books!
2011, September: Had a great time at the Comics Festival in Helsinki. I got some good reponse on Otto both the books and original work, and maybe got some new followers. I also met some nice and talented comic artist from Germany, Portugal and all over Scandinavia. I would like to thank the people behind the festival and I hope to come back some time.
2011, September: In connection with my visit to Helsinki Comics Festival this following weekend I have made a line of original Otto postcards drawn on cut-up cardboard boxes.
There are about 20 pieces done in different styles as you can see
here. Perhaps a future merchandise succes or otherwise just great fun to do.
2011, September: In memory of the events on 9/11 2001 I made
this Otto strip. 10 years ago I had my office installed in a mobile home way out in the country during contruction work. I was making my morning brew on all orange coffee machine
when I heard the news on the radio. It was surreel, I remember feeling very small and thinking: This is how a World War breaks out. I did'nt have TV or internet in that period so I did'nt see the iconic pictures of the falling towers until weeks later.
2011, August: OTTO was not selected for the competition, instead I have uploaded the submitted comic strip
here. Buon divertimento!
2011, Maj: Finished a 20 panel comic strip for an italian competition for satire and comic artists. The winners will be exhibited at the 26th edition of International Biennial of Art Humour in Tolentino. The theme is "20th Century Art" and in the strip Otto poses as a fine arts painter with possibly no talent. I hope to post the strip here on the site when the competition is ended.
2011, April: Attented
Art Bubble in Horsens, Denmark saturday. A nice small comics festival that reminded me a little of the first
Komiks.dk in 2004. Said hello to fellow comic artists and signed a some copies of the new book: "Otto Nullus Non" had come directly from the presses and looked just fine. The episodes themselves are pantomime, but the book has additionel text about the origin of Otto and the work progress of the strip. I had planned that a part of the edition should be in english, but gave up on that due to time pressure, sorry folks! For those of you who missed the Otto episodes "En lille nisse rejste", "Urmagerens hævn" and "… fra oven" (inspired by Mette Ehlers "Ord fra oven") in Free Comics, they are collected here together with brand new material. Order today at
Forlaget Forlæns, it is printed as a limited edition!
2011, April: More MoCCA? A new artist to watch closely: Leslie Stein. Her "Eye of the Majestic Creature" just came out on
Fantagraphics, I caught one of her self published comics in Desert Island, Brooklyn. Here I also met oPeter Bagge and got hold of an signed original. Desert Island is a small, really nice comic book store with a surprisingly wide range of titles. From there I went with Martin Flink and Palle Schmidt to Bergen Street Comics, also Brooklyn, for the release of the antology teamup between swedish C'est Bon Culture and Rapid Rabbit. A great evening of comics, beer and interesting people.
2011, April: Just returned from comic festival
MoCCA in New York bringing new experiences, exciting contacts and a trunk filled with great books. Until now I've read Daniel Clowes' "Mister Wonderful", a study in self hatred and loathing for the world in general. Funny and disturbing, in line with "Wilson". A whole new aquintance is Joseph Lambert, his "I will bite you" from Secret Acres is a sequence of beautifully drawn comic novellas. Secret Acres was one of the publishers I spoke to about Otto; more of this later. It was my first, but hopefully not last visit to MoCCA. Thank you my fellow travellers for a great couple of days.
2011, Januar: Was made aware of Art Bubble in Horsens and suggested a ”best of Otto”-publication on Forlaget Forlæns for the event. My publisher Torben would rather put out something new; would I have time to come up with brand new stuff? Sure! I am now working on fresh material for "Otto Nullus Non" which besides a new 18 pages episode, new strips and one pages-gags also will include material from Free Comics that hasn’t been published in book form before.
2011, Januar: At the end of January I was in Angoulême at the annual comics festival, supposedly the biggest one of it’s kind in Europe. I was lucky enough to travel with Thomas Thorhauge, Erik Barkman, Matthias Wivel og Steffen Maarup. I had a chance to meet french and belgian publishers and show off "Otto Obscura", hopefully it will result in further international publication. Read more about this years festival
here
2010, November: ”Otto Obscura” is published and recieves
several good reviews. Already got a head start on the follow-up ”Citizen Otto”.
